Q&A - PieceOfCake.

If you have any questions about PieceOfCake please send me an email. Here are some assorted questions:

Q: Can I share the database with other users in the same network?
A:
Not at this time. This is a single-user database. But you can share recipes with the import/export functions.

Q: I have some good recipes I just have to share...
A:
Please send them to me and I will upload them on this site.

Q: Is the user interface translated into other languages?
A: The user interface is currently in English, German and Swedish. If you are interested in translating the program into your language please send me an email.

Q: Will there be versions for other operating systems than Windows?
A:
No, sorry. But if someone is willing to test and run the program in a Windows emulator I would be very interested to know the result.

Q: Can I use this program with other recipe programs?
A:
You cannot use the same physical database, but you can import files from other systems (currently MealMaster and MasterCook). Would you like me to add support for other import files? Just let me know and I will try to add it.

Q: How many recipes can you store in PieceOfCake?
A:
The program uses a SQL database, and the limit is probably depending on your disksize/memory. To be honest I don't know if there are any limitations. I have tested with a database with 13.000 recipes without any sign of problems.

Q: Can you print recipes in special paper formats?
A:
Currently PieceOfCake does not print anything itself. When printing, the recipes are moved into Word, and from there you can decide how to print it yourself. If you don't have Word the recipes are moved into a textfile.

Q: What about the "nutrition index" functions?
A:
PieceOfCake does not calculate nutrition details like salts and vitamins. There are three nutrition facts available for ingredients: kcal, fat and fiber. There are some popular nutrition formulas, for instance WeightWatchers. I have not supplied any such formula to do any calculations (due to patents and copyrights). You will need to find a suitable formula for yourself. When printing recipes the "nutrition index" per ingredient is shown plus the "nutrition index" per serving. Hint: just enter "kcal" in the formula field to get the calories calculated.

Q: I don't want all bells and whistles - I just need something simple.
A:
Yes, there are some functions you probably won't need to use. But just entering recipes and doing some searches is very easy. You can enter any kind of recipe, reference to a book or to a web address. And there is a help file if you would get stuck. And - it doesn't cost anything to give it a try!
